Vision and goals
Our research and development team at the Valley site consists of engineers, mechanical engineers, sports scientists, plastics engineers, electrical engineers and medical engineers who work on new innovative ideas and further develop the product range on a daily basis.
Where do the creative ideas come from?
Anyone can become an idea generator for OPED. Every idea - whether from doctors, nurses or OPED employees - is valuable and is reviewed by an internal committee and, if suitable for OPED, passed on to the internal developers.
Goals of your own development
The focus is clearly on the patient. The ideas developed should become safe, comfortable solutions for patients that are suitable for everyday use. In addition to the functional aspects, the products should also have an appealing design. OPED wants to take the focus off the injury and become a “lifestyle” product to a certain extent.
For the users in the clinics, the products should primarily be easy and time-saving to put on.
Step by step to a product ready for series production
In the first development phase, prototypes made of suitable materials (plastic, metal, wood and fabric) are manufactured and tested in our own workshop in Germany in close cooperation with our location in Switzerland. If the concept model fulfills its function, the next development step takes place. In addition to the further elaboration of the solution, this includes, for example, the selection of the final materials, suitable suppliers and the integration of the design.
A committee decides in each case whether the idea moves on to the next phase, which ultimately results in a finished series product.

Development of digital solutions
The Digital Health Solution team at OPED develops digital solutions made in Germany that support doctors, therapists, orthopaedic technicians and patients from the first day of treatment through to full recovery. Our innovation center in Valley, Upper Bavaria, is home to pioneering technologies such as Orthelligent VISION - an AI-controlled system for performing and evaluating gait analysis.
The aim is to better understand and sustainably improve movement through technology - because every step counts. With creative ideas, technical know-how and numerous practical tests, Orthelligent is continuously being developed further - directly on site in Bavaria. Our solutions are intuitive to use and consistently geared towards the requirements of everyday medical practice.
The entire software development process - from design, programming and testing to maintenance - is carried out in Germany to the highest quality standards. All data is also stored exclusively on servers in Germany. This not only guarantees the highest data protection standards, but also strengthens Germany as a healthcare location through responsible AI innovation.
